Boys and girls interested in playing soccer can register for a course aimed at improving their basic skills. Closing date for registration with the Youth Development Soccer Programme is May 29. As in previous years, the programme will be divided into four stages. The first two stages involve improving basic football skills. The third stage includes competition between players from the same district, while the fourth stage will be an inter-district competition for boys and girls. The Youth Development Soccer Programme, open to anyone aged six to 18, is a proven success and more than 200 youngsters are expected to take part this year. Forms are available from the Boys' and Girls' Clubs Association and the Hong Kong Youth Association. Meanwhile, the territory's under-16 soccer squad will help celebrate the handover by contesting the Reunification Cup. The squad left Hong Kong yesterday for Wuhan where they will play against the local under-16 team. The powerful Hong Kong side is favoured to beat Wuhan despite their home-ground advantage.
