In case you have not noticed already, Hong Kong has a queue culture. We line up for practically anything and everything from concert tickets and computer games to flats, cakes and . . . a free tunnel crossing.

It is as if we queue because everyone else does.

Take this week, for instance.

Long queues formed outside MTR stations on Sunday when the souvenir Tsing Ma Bridge tickets went on sale.

And here we are talking about queues that formed before 8am on a rainy morning.

On the same day, car queues brought traffic to a standstill when thousands of motorists took advantage of the Western Harbour Tunnel's 'no toll day'.

By midnight, about 105,000 vehicles had crossed the tunnel, and most were moving at a snail's pace during the day.
