The Open Learning Institute (OLI) will be able to buy sophisticated equipment to upgrade its training for electronics and engineering students, thanks to the Hong Kong Jockey Club Charities Trust.
The trust has pledged $3 million for upgrading the OLI's science project laboratory.
Electronics and Engineering are among the main subjects provided by the OLI's School of Science and Technology.
Through the Jockey Club gift, the OLI can equip its 145 square metre laboratory with software and hardware, including a 3-D scanning system, Robotic System and Simulation Software.
This equipment will allow students to specialise in a greater range of topics.
Dr Jimmy Chan Sun-fat, lecturer in Engineering Mechanics, Materials and Design, said: 'The OLI students, having been exposed to these sophisticated and diverse types of equipment, will be able to grasp the skills which are needed in the advanced technological world.' Dr Javaid Mirza, a senior Electronics lecturer, said the equipment allowed students to conduct projects related to implementing modern systems.
