Next time you are in London, the hottest seat in town will be at Terence Conran's newest and biggest gastrodome, the Bluebird (a project costing about HK$125 million), which opened this week.
Situated in a converted 1920s garage on the fashionable King's Road, Bluebird not only has a 240-seat restaurant employing 120 chefs and 100 staff but also a cafe; markets selling the best fruit, vegetables, meat and fish; an oil and spice shop; a wine shop, and a traiteur, selling oven-ready dishes. If you can't get a seat, there's always Bibendum, Quaglino's and Mezzo.
If you hear someone complaining that they can't get a decent late-night snack in Central, send them to Tokio Joe in Lan Kwai Fong, which has introduced an izakaya menu - Japanese snacks and drinks - from 11pm until late at weekends.
The menu offers quick dishes such as grilled scallops and the restaurant's crab-avocado roll.
The Century hotel's Jaffe's restaurant has closed and renovations are underway for a 'more atmospheric' Italian, Pepino's, which will open in late June.
