Mark Kwok Kin-ming was once again forced to abandon a final yesterday at the East Asian Games swimming competition.

Kwok qualified for yesterday's final of the men's 200 metres butterfly in seventh place during the morning heats.

But the fever which made him forfeit the 400 metres final on Wednesday prevented him from competing yesterday afternoon as Japan's Takashi Yamamoto took gold in an Asian record of 1:58.01.

Kwok also qualified for today's men's 1,500 metres freestyle and coach Chan Yiu-hoi is hoping he will recover in time.

Three other Hong Kong swimmers qualified for finals yesterday. Arthur Li and Zachary Moffatt reached the last eight of the men's 50 metres freestyle while Fong Lik-sun is a finalist in the men's 100 metres backstroke.

Li was fifth in 24.13 seconds, touching home 0.77 seconds behind Japan's Tomohiro Yamanoi, who won the gold ahead of Kazakhstan's Alexei Khovrine and China's Zhang Xiao.
