Opera kept alive for young

RTHK and the Education Department have combined to promote traditional Cantonese opera among youngsters.

They have produced Window for Traditional Cantonese Opera, a CD-Rom about the art.

Radio 5 and Government officials also co-operated over a demonstration and talk at Ko Shan Theatre, Kowloon.

Leung Hon-wai, principal of Hon Fung Traditional Cantonese Opera School, and his students took part.

More than 1,000 Form One students from the territory's schools went to watch the show.

'It is hoped that through live demonstrations and narration, students' understanding and knowledge of Cantonese opera will be enhanced,' said an Education Department spokesman.
