IT took the House Committee only moments to reject age-based seating arrangements when the interim assembly moves to the Legco chamber.

'Any option related to age should be dropped,' argued Selina Chow Liang Shuk-yee, when six options were discussed. And no one dared argue with the 16-year Legco veteran.

Currently seats in the Legco are allocated according to seniority. Members with the same length of service are seated alphabetically. But the colonial system is to be scrapped.

Mrs Chow's Liberal Party colleague Howard Young waded in on her behalf followed by party chairman Allen Lee Peng-fei, the longest-serving legislator with more than 18 years, who did not care where he sat.

Wong Siu-yee said: 'It is not so important how the seats will be allocated.
