POLICE chiefs have been accused of stalling over allegations public funds were misused during an investigation into a robbery at the home of former police commissioner Li Kwan-ha.
Democratic legislator James To Kun-sun said he had written a second letter to police chief Eddie Hui Ki-on after receiving unsatisfactory answers to questions he asked on April 18.
The allegation centres on an investigation into a robbery at Mr Li's home in Magazine Gap Road on September 21, 1990, in which $370,000 in watches, cash and jewellery was reported to have been stolen.
Security Panel chairman Mr To said he had been told that police probing the robbery had tracked some of the stolen goods to a Macau pawn shop and then used public funds to buy them back.
'My understanding is that such action, if it happened, would have been in breach of regulations,' Mr To said.
'I have asked the police if it is true, but I would say they haven't answered my questions and I am left wondering why,' he added.
But Chief Superintendent Harry Blud of the Police Public Relations Bureau said last night that Mr To would have to wait.
