China has strengthened administration of anaesthetics, psychotropic medicine and amphetamines as part of the national effort to fight drugs.
The Department of Medical Administration, under the Ministry of Public Health, issued a circular requiring all drug manufacturers to strengthen management over the production of these drugs.
It said lax management had become a serious problem and many drug dealers were able to obtain their supplies from the makers.
The circular said only authorised manufacturers could trade in amphetamine and a monitoring system would be implemented to keep track of production and sales of the drug.
All sales of amphetamine must be through banks and no cash transactions would be allowed.
The circular, carried by Xinhua (the New China News Agency) yesterday, also made clear that all manufacturers would be held accountable for their stocks and any violators of the regulations would lose their licences.
