There were plenty of promising runs in yesterday's two griffin events, especially from the Tony Cruz-trained Leisure Island in the opener. The race itself was won by Andy Leung's Silver Collector, who displayed an excellent attitude and will win more races on his tenacity alone. Leisure Island was ridden by the useful apprentice Martin C. K. Tsang who wasn't able to claim any of his seven-pound allowance and thus immediately put Leisure Island at a disadvantage. The son of Bluebird was always in mid-division and was noted staying on very promising under hands-and-heels riding all the way to the line. The outing will have done him the world of good and he's one to note next season. In the other griffin contest, Leung's My Friends Say showed very good speed to run into fourth in what was a hot race, while stablemate Hara Hara raced very greenly on his debut but still managed to run eighth. Hara Hara displayed enough natural ability to win races after a run or two next season.
