Seven-year-old Jacky Ma Wai-ching is busy learning China's national anthem. With only 40 days left before Hong Kong returns to China, Jacky's primary school plans to make all students learn how to sing the song.

Jacky was given the lyrics this week and told he should learn how to sing the anthem by June 30.

Jacky, a Primary One pupil at King's College Old Boys' Association Primary School, lives in Central with his parents and a younger sister.

What's on your mind? I wonder if I can learn the national song in less than two months. My music teacher has given us the lyrics and played it to us. It was the first time I had listened to the whole of the song. It sounds interesting, especially as it is sung in Putonghua.

My classmates and I are happy to have a chance to learn the song. I hope we will know it well later.

Do you have any difficulty learning the song? Yes. I don't know how to pronounce the lyrics in Putonghua. I have not learned the language. My school offers Putonghua lessons for Primary Three students and above.
