Sir Run Run and bride avoid parties
Entertainment tycoon Sir Run Run Shaw has told friends he does not want any festivities to celebrate his marriage to longtime business companion Mona Fong.
The movie mogul, 89, married former singer Lee Mong-lan, 62, better known as Mona Fong, at a private ceremony in a Las Vegas chapel earlier this month.
Close friends said the bride had told them she wanted to return to a private life without any publicity about the secret marriage, news of which emerged only this week.
The couple have been business partners for many years and company records show Sir Run Run made his bride a director of the Shaw Brothers movie studios in 1969.
She was given a seat on the board of directors of TVB, where Sir Run Run is a major shareholder, in 1988.
Yesterday, the new Mrs Shaw had resumed chairing business meetings at Shaw Brothers' offices in Clear Water Bay, while Sir Run Run was in Beijing attending a Preparatory Committee meeting.
