The Lantau Link had its first road crash last night as police prepared for traffic mayhem on the newly opened network this weekend.
Two motorbike riders were injured in a collision with a truck on the Tsing Ma Bridge.
Police yesterday urged members of the public not to rush to use the new highways this weekend to avoid causing traffic chaos, particularly in Tung Chung.
Police might bar entry to the area to all vehicles except public buses, taxis and coaches and those with Transport Department permits, a spokesman warned.
Two additional circular bus routes are to begin operating today for passengers to view the Lantau Link on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays between 9 am and 5 pm. The X21 runs from Tai Kok Tsui and the X31 from Tsuen Wan, with fares of $28 and $20 respectively.
