Despite the fact PictureTel products enable people to be seen and heard, the company has had a low-key presence in Asia.
A specialist in video-conferencing products, PictureTel 'has a very low profile because we have only been in this region for four years', the company's new regional marketing communications manager Heidi Lim said.
'My mission is to increase the company's visibility in the Asia region.' The firm will increase its promotional spending by 30 per cent this year to boost its corporate image.
Before joining PictureTel, Ms Lim worked in the marketing communications division of Commercial Software Services and the North Asia operations of British Telecom, where she gained knowledge of the communications and technology industries.
Founded in 1984, US-based PictureTel produces a wide range of systems for video-conferencing through desktop PCs and intranets.
It recently launched the latest version of LiveLAN, a local area network-based system for Windows 95 PCs that operates on top of IPX and IP protocols.
