South China Morning Post reporters and photographers took eight prizes in the newspaper section of the 1997 Hong Kong Human Rights Press Awards yesterday.
First prize in the English-language news category went to Jane Moir for a Sunday Morning Post series on the treatment of Vietnamese children in Hong Kong hospitals.
Deputy features editor Hedley Thomas, markets editor Deborah Orr and features writer Mariana Wan each collected certificates of merit for their work.
Post photographers Tony Aw, Martin Chan, Ricky Chung and Oliver Tsang also received merit awards for news pictures.
The first prize for features went to James Cox of USA Today for a report on migrants in China. The Asian Wall Street Journal took the top prize for commentary and analysis, while Larry Feign won the first prize in the cartoon section.
Larry Chan of the Hong Kong Standard won the top prize for photography.
