The recent Computer '97 Show saw Apple participate for the first time in many years. Apple supporters thought it was about time.
After all, MacWorld Expo is an event that attracts people who already have Macintoshes or who have an interest in the Mac. Attending Computer '97 was a welcome change on Apple's part and should be encouraged.
There are problems, however, and the problems are called 'clones'.
Apple clone makers seem to be having a rough time of it in Hong Kong.
At the computer show, the Hong Kong Mac Users' Club tried to get some Macs to use at its booth, but Apple, according to someone who claimed to represent the club on the Internet, did not have enough machines.
The club therefore got one from Umax. A manager at Apple - name unknown - went over to the club booth and told them to get rid of the Umax. If they did not, they were warned, Apple would withdraw all support for the booth.
