Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co and Stena Line have welcomed the decision of the French Government to allow the proposed merger of their short-sea, cross-channel ferry operations.

 The companies cited comments by France's Ministry of Finance and External Trade that the merger would not eliminate competition and would allow for rationalisation of over-capacity in cross-channel services and modernisation of the fleet.
