New arrivals to Hong Kong - especially those at school age - have been urged to take part in a series of educational activities throughout June and July. The Director of Home Affairs and co-chairman of the Organising Committee on Community Building Project on Education, Shelley Lau Lee Lai-kuen, made the appeal at the launch of the project. The project has adopted the theme of 'Building Hong Kong on Education: From Convention to New Mission'. Mrs Lau said by participating in these activities, new arrivals would not only get to know more about the education system in Hong Kong but also gain a better understanding of their immediate environment. She believed the activities would also be useful to their integration into local community. The project aims to outline the development of Hong Kong's education system, its present position and future direction. The project will feature a roving exhibition to be held at Tuen Mun, Tsuen Wan and Yuen Long town halls and Cityplaza in Taikoo Shing, a programme to introduce the development of tertiary education in Hong Kong, an international conference, a gala week and a grand finale.
