General merchandising store operator Jusco Stores (Hong Kong) has reshuffled its management ahead of a continued push into the retail market in Hong Kong and Guangdong.

Akihito Tanaka has been appointed managing director, replacing Tatsuichi Yamaguchi who has been relocated to Japan to head parent Jusco Japan's merchandising team.

Sozaburo Yamazaki, a former assistant to the managing director, has been appointed deputy managing director.

'The business direction and development strategy of Jusco will remain unchanged under my leadership,' Mr Tanaka said.

'We will continue our plan of opening one store every year to bring the total to 10 in five years' time.' Mr Tanaka said Jusco would raise its gross profit margin to about 6 per cent from an existing 3 per cent by selling more wholly owned brand products.

'We hope in-house products will account for 30 per cent of total products next year,' he said.
