It gives me great delight to welcome every building professional to IBEX '97, the 14th International Building and Construction Exposition. This year's IBEX show introduces three new launches. They are A/E/C Systems Hong Kong '97 (the only computer show for the design and construction industry), CONMAC '97 (the first international construction machinery and equipment exposition in Hong Kong), and IHEX '97 (the first international hardware exposition in Hong Kong). This new format is aimed at providing a one-stop shopping venue for movers and shakers in the industry so their different needs can be better addressed. In particular, the launch of A/E/C Systems Hong Kong '97 is an echo of the prevalent utilisation of computer systems in today's architectural design and construction industry. Being the largest and longest-running building and construction exposition in Hong Kong, IBEX '97, together with the three new segments, will continuously provide an efficacious marketing platform for more than 300 world-class exhibiting companies. It will also introduce the latest industry advancements for the territory and its adjacent regions, such as Taiwan and southern China. Special features of this year's event include a series of conferences and seminars, as well as the participation of six international pavilions from Australia, Italy, Mexico, Spain, Britain and the United States. On behalf of Reed Exhibition Companies, I would like to thank various supporting associations and trade commissions for their great contributions in making the show a success. Last, but not least, I wish everyone a fruitful participation, and look forward to seeing you again at IBEX '98, which will be on at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from June 8 to 11 next year. BERNARDY LAU, Managing director (Greater China Region), Reed Exhibition Companies.
