Four thousand officials and business leaders will have their taste buds challenged at a gourmet handover gala. A five-course meal, featuring delicacies from the five continents, has been planned for the July 2 dinner at the Hongkong Convention and Exhibition Centre. Guests can expect a European appetiser, an Asian soup, an Antipodean main course followed by a North American dessert, and South American coffee with Belgian chocolates. A limited edition 60-year-old Scotch whisky will be served. The $100,000-a-table black-tie banquet will be staged by the Better Hongkong Foundation with 22 chambers of commerce - the first collaboration between the business associations. Organising committee chairman Nellie Fong Wong Kut-man said Chief Executive-designate Tung Chee-hwa, 24 government secretaries and top officials, and mainland officials had also been invited.
