Eight of the territory's elite athletes took to the catwalk to introduce a new line of sports luggage. The Sportrack label is a joint venture involving the Hong Kong Sports Institute (HKSI) and Mendoza, an established luggage and bag manufacturer. The launch was staged at the HKSI and featured as models the swimmer Snowie Pang, rowers Fenella Ng and Chiang Wing-hung, badminton players Ma Chi-wai, Chan Mei-mei and Tam Lok-tin, and triathletes Jill Fung and Kevin Chan. Despite it being their first catwalk experience, the athletes won over the audience with their professional cool. The Sportrack collection includes six different bag designs in tones of blue. A range of sportsmen and women have been catered for with the bags varying in size and style to suit the serious athlete or the recreational user. The institute athletes and coaches were consulted at length on the practicality of the designs. Scholarship athletes Fung and Tam are particularly familiar, having been employed by the manufacturers as brand executives. The institute's Athletes Affairs Department works hard with the business community to provide athletes with work experience, squeezing it between the many long hours they spend training. HKSI general manager (operations) David Mak Kwok-ching said at the Sportrack launch that a royalty on the sales of the bags would be ploughed back in to the institute for the development of elite athletes in the territory. He also thanked Mendoza for their continued support, which has included sponsoring luggage and sports bags for those athletes who attended the Atlanta Olympics last year and this year's East Asian Games. Athlete affairs manager at the institute, Amy Chan Lim- chee, said she looked forward to more companies offering job training opportunities to scholarship athletes.
