Business tycoon Henry Fok Ying-tung has laid the foundation stone of a new residence hall for visiting Chinese and overseas educators.
Dr Fok, who donated the $22 million needed for the Fok Ying Tung Hall of Residence, laid the stone at a ceremony held by the Vocational Training Council (VTC).
VTC chairman Samuel Wong Ping-wai said: 'The completion of the hall will mark a new stage in relations between the VTC and the vocational education bodies in China and overseas.
'An in-depth sharing of ideas will soon be possible because of this hall, where educators from China and overseas can be provided with accommodation facilities.
'The residence can contribute much to the exchange of experience between local vocational educators and their counterparts from elsewhere.' Dr Fok said the hall would 'strengthen the co-operation between the VTC and mainland vocational training bodies'. 'Through organised training, young people are able to acquire competence in a certain trade and serve the community with their skills,' he said. The hall is due to be completed by the end of the year.
Mr Wong died last week.
