THE King Shan Court Homeowners' Association expressed misgivings about the crowded conditions in the Diamond Hill columbarium's Sze Chen Hall during Ching Ming and Chung Yeung Festivals (South China Morning Post, February 1).
As the managing authority of the Diamond Hill Crematorium, the Urban Services Department received an earlier letter from the Association.
Since then, the department has carefully considered the suggestions made by the Association and has implemented these wherever applicable.
The suggestions included the installation of sufficient directional signs, the employment of Civil Aid Services to regulate the flow of visitors and the deployment of more staff to monitor incense burning activities inside the columbarium to prevent any fire risks.
Following the implementation of these measures, the situation in the columbarium was found to be satisfactory during the last Chung Yeung Festival.
As regards the point raised about the Sze Chen Hall, I wish to point out that the columbarium was designed and built strictly in accordance with the Building Ordinance.
