New World Telephone (NWT) says it has about 30,000 customers signed up on its fixed line network. The disclosure accompanied yesterday's launch of its new centralised exchange service aimed at providing enhanced services and value-added features for business users. NWT said it would spend nearly half a billion dollars over the next year expanding the range and capability of the MultiCom Centrex equipment. 'MultiCom Centrex is a highly flexible centralised exchange that provides direct lines from as low as one to hundreds of lines,' the company said. The service would appeal especially to business customers who do not have a pabx switchboard, said business sales operations director Con Conway. 'It delivers them pabx functionality,' he said.
