Ericsson to launch new telephones
Ericsson plans to launch dual-mode, triple-band mobile phones running on 1,900 MHz PCS, 800 MHz digital AMPS and 800 MHz analog AMPS in Hong Kong later this year.
The PD328 and PD398 were released in the United States last month as the first phones to provide nationwide digital coverage.
They will be suited to the Pacific Link digital AMPS network in Hong Kong.
However, the phones cannot perform on PCS in Hong Kong because all PCS services in the territory are based on the European DCS-1800 standard with an operating frequency of 1,800 MHz.
Ericsson's product manager Michael Ho said the equipment was useful for international roaming.
He added there would be only a slight price difference between new triple-band phones and the existing dual-mode models for digital and analog AMPS.
