The Vocational Training Council (VTC) has invited auto-electricians and mechanics in the territory to take part in this year's Best Apprentice Awards. Winners will get the opportunity to travel overseas to learn more about their trades. Organised by the VTC's Automobile Industry Training Board, the competition was launched in 1986. There are separate categories for the auto-electricians and mechanical apprentices. Those youths registered with the Director of Apprenticeship who will complete their training between July 1 this year and June 30, 1988 are eligible to enter. Applications must be in by June 27. In both categories, the competition will consist of a theory test and a skills test. All contestants must sit the theory test before proceeding to the skills test. The training board will select three winners in each trade. The successful six will win a five-day study trip to visit vehicle-related organisations abroad. A cash prize of $1,000 also will go to the competitors who score the highest marks for theory and skills in the two categories. The theory tests will be held on August 8, the skills tests in September.
