A service is available in Hong Kong which allows business users who visit less-developed regions with inferior telecommunications systems to keep in touch with their colleagues.
Director of CelluWare Research Technology, George Lam, and Kenneth Ho, marketing manager of Elekon Co, say the answer is a satellite phone.
Mr Lam said: 'You will find satellite phones particularly useful in remote outposts and at sea.
'To use satellite phones in a city centre, business travellers and journalists no longer need to rely on expensive hotel phone calls.
'The equipment is also designed for emergency use during disasters in which the infrastructure is destroyed.' Other potential users include geologists or surveyors exploring for minerals.
Both the Logiq travel phone and Nera worldphone are mini-M satellite communication equipment, and were released at the end of last year.
