Officer planning smooth road ahead for territory's big night
Police Superintendent Andrew Li Tat-wah, 46, is working out traffic arrangements to ensure top officials, guests and the media can flow freely around East Tamar and the Convention and Exhibition Centre on June 30 and July 1.
He was appointed in February to the eight-member Police Planning and Implementation Team.
The task is proving the most challenging of Mr Li's 27 years in the force and he is glad for the support of his wife and 13-year-old daughter.
What does the handover mean to you? As a police officer, it means a challenge for me as I'll have to work that night. It's an important responsibility. I'll try my best.
Why do you think you were chosen to join the team? I believe it's related to my past experience in the traffic division, Police Tactical Unit, Emergency Unit and the 999 command and control centre. These types of work experience are needed for the planning of large-scale activities.
How did you work out the traffic arrangements? We gathered basic information, like location of venues, times of events, traffic networks and transport systems. Then we worked out security needs and modes of transport for guests. We also had to decide which roads to keep open for access to premises.
