There was an impressive bit of finessing at the Motor Vehicles Registration Office in Admiralty last week. A woman with an overdue car licence tried to renew it. Unfortunately, the form requires the car owner's signature - and her husband was away on a business trip.
Staff discussed the problem, and agreed they would bend the rules to help the woman. They suggested she sign her husband's name.
A manager was called to pass judgment. He ruled that the form she had signed with her husband's name must be destroyed, but if the woman picked up another form, and signed that with her husband's name, the staff would process it.
'We cannot accept the first form because we have seen you sign your husband's name,' the manager explained.
Since they would not watch her sign the second one, it would be allowed.
It ain't what you do, it's whether people see you do it.
