The Saint - Soundtrack (Virgin) More than just a marketing tool, the movie compilation has taken on a life of its own with teams of musical supervisors employed to conjure a winning mix.
And for the most part, The Saint gets it right with a thought-provoking blend of trip-hop, techno, hip-hop, rock and world beat.
There is no doubt Leslie Charteris' Robin Hood of crime was crying out for a revamp. Even the tunes had to reflect an urgency and freshness befitting the times. Not surprisingly, it is the least fresh of the artists - Duran Duran (Out Of My Mind ) and David Bowie (Dead Man Walking ) - that fall flat.
The opening track is Orbital's imaginative debunking of the 1960s TV theme, and while the original never quite matched it with Mission Impossible, this one does its best.
There are moments of cross-over brilliance that will go a long way towards converting even hardened rock critics to rave.
The ever-enigmatic Moby unleashes a measure of his mixing-desk wizardry with a moaning vocal collage titled Oil 1 - the only track, apart from the theme, recorded specifically for the film.
