Polythene - Feeder (Echo Records) It is always reassuring to find raucous rock-pop did not die with Kurt Cobain, and encouraging to find an outfit which can maintain the Nirvana heritage while adding something fresh.
Fighting out of London, Feeder, another guitar-bass-drums three-piece clearly able to thrash with the best of them, fit the bill.
But while drawing support from the Metallica, Nirvana and even Oasis camps, they are not afraid to vary the formula, to turn the volume down and get melodic, with Suffocate taking the honours here.
Outstanding tracks Radiation and Descend seamlessly combine the sound, the fury and the ability to reflect, although elsewhere there is a tendency to fall back on untrammelled power.
But the odd, telling vocal turn makes itself felt too, notably - 'I'm in quicksand, I'm sinking in again, I've got concrete shoes, and I can't swim' - from Cement.
There is an undeniable touch of young-lads-let-loose-with-loud-guitars about this record, but it is still early days and Feeder show a lot of promise.
