A Zhongshan factory worker is believed to have murdered three colleagues and two security guards, a newspaper reported yesterday.

Police found the five bodies at the Zhongshan Swan Confection Factory last Monday. The victims had apparently been killed by blows to the head and body. They were found in the factory's workshops and the living quarters, Guangzhou's Nanfang Daily reported.

Deng Jianbin, a worker from Hunan, was the prime suspect, the report said. Deng, 21, who shared living quarters with the victims, has been missing since the murders were reported.

Police found some of his clothes covered with blood. They also found three letters and a diary in which Deng wrote that he wanted to take revenge on society and that he would kill himself at one of the city's canals. Canals were searched but his body was not found.

Lin Guohe, a deputy director of Zhongshan Public Security Bureau, pledged to crack the case soon and appealed to other Hunan workers in Zhongshan to help police.
