MUSIC Robert Lucas. From Thursday, 9pm, The Jazz Club, $280.

The blues straddle the handover at the Jazz Club with this residency from guitar slinger Robert Lucas, deferred due to illness from November. Lucas apparently is back in good shape and wielding his trademark Telecaster to blistering effect.

He is an equally adept acoustic player and apparently will be performing one set solo with a National Steel guitar and one on electric guitar with a full backing band. He comes with quite a list of accolades and has been called 'easily the most significant white blues man since John Hammond' as well as having won the approval of the great Willie Dixon.

Lucas will be playing every night apart from July 1 until July 5 so there should be plenty of opportunities to catch him. Grab one of them.

The Third Series. Starting tomorrow, 9pm, Tiffany's New York Bar, Grand Stanford Harbour View Hotel, free to customers.

Jazz, blues, Latin, soul and a few pop standards from British singer Alexia Gardner and her two back-up musicians. Gardner is a new addition to the band which is well settled into its residency at the bar, and cites Billie Holliday, Nina Simone and Sade as her main influences. The group will be performing at Tiffany's until the end of July.
