APL to fight on for subsidies

APL says it will push ahead with its bid to continue receiving United States shipping subsidies, despite a similar application being rejected.

The US Maritime Administration dismissed Lykes' bid to retain the subsidies as part of a proposed tie-up with Canadian Pacific.

APL wants to merge with the Singaporean firm Neptune Orient Lines, but hopes creating a US subsidiary will allow it to retain its subsidies.
