Bay Networks says it has launched a strategic reform, aiming to better respond to the marketplace of the future.
Vice-president of sales, service and marketing Dave Shrigley visited Hong Kong last week to introduce the company's initiative - adaptive networking.
It is an intelligent model that can adapt dynamically to changing network usage patterns and traffic volumes, in particular the growing use of mission-critical and Internet-based applications.
This strategy is seen as necessary for long-term network evolution without disruption.
Bay said it had the adaptability to protect a company's investment in infrastructure while anticipating and supporting changing user needs. It also is an open platform for 'plug-and-play' inter-operability in mixed-technology networks.
Steve Wood, Bay's vice-president in Asia Pacific, said adaptive networking was the way to future IP (Internet protocol) optimised networks that could provide more services with less complexity.
Mr Wood said two important forces were reshaping networking - the convergence of global network infrastructures on IP, and Asic (application specific integrated circuit) technology and its more cost-effective network hardware.
