I have a Hewlett-Packard LaserJet 5L which used to work fine with my old desktop PC running Windows 95. I recall that when I first set these two up together I had to install a special piece of software on to my PC.
A few weeks ago I traded my desktop with a friend for his Digital Pentium notebook which is frankly more powerful than my desktop. However, now my printer doesn't work with it. My printer is separately connected to a fax receiving device and faxes still come through and print out fine, but I can't get my notebook to print out. What is my problem and what can I do about it? JOSEPH SERGEI Mid-Levels It would appear that your laptop is missing the proper printer driver for your LaserJet 5L. Since your faxes still come out of it without any problems, I don't imagine the problem is with your printer.
If you don't have access to the Internet, your best bet is to telephone HP's offices in Hong Kong and explain your problem to them. They will probably let you have a copy on disk if you explain you don't have Net access.
In the meantime, in case of a printing emergency at home, you could do what I did a few weeks ago when my printer went on the fritz.
After trying to get it to work for more than half an hour, I eventually used Microsoft Fax to fax the document I needed printing out to my fax number. Thanks to my plain paper fax machine, it came out looking almost as good as it would have done as an original laser print.
