A six-tonne monster - a Chinese tripod from Shanghai - will be moving to Wan Chai tonight to take its position at the handover ceremony venue.
The latest gift could be the last straw for Chief Executive-designate Tung Chee-hwa's aides who are searching for places to store the mounting pile of presents.
Mr Tung is considering converting Government House into a museum to accommodate some of the gifts. A spokesman said staff hoped to come up with a storage solution by Monday.
The bronze tripod, entitled Hong Kong Tripod, is 1.997 metres high, 1.7 metres in diameter and stands on a 1.6-metre-high pedestal.
It is scheduled to arrive by air this evening.
Organisers said extra care would be taken to ensure the tripod reached Wan Chai by lorry safely.
