The council passed a bill to bring an updated version of the English Habeas Corpus Acts of 1679 and 1816 on to the statute book. The Government proposed that once a writ for habeas corpus had been issued, no removal action would be taken by the Director of Immigration, until the writ was discharged or legal proceedings concluded.
