Protesters who turned out last night included those against the provisional legislature, the Tiananmen massacre, the forced abortion policy in the mainland and the Communist Party.

Also present were people with complaints against police, complaints against the Hong Kong and British governments, and some calling for the immediate right of abode for illegal immigrant children born to Hong Kong parents.

Police arranged for Hong Kong government representatives to take petition letters on behalf of the top Beijing leaders.

Another group representing 140 buyers of properties in the mainland's tallest office and retail complex, Giant Building in Zhuhai, demanded repayment of the money they had invested.

Members of the American-based religious group Loyal Opposition held a big poster featuring a twisted human skull to protest against mainland authorities infringing human rights.

'The American Government has turned a blind eye to the murders, beatings and imprisonment of Chinese citizens,' said the founder, Randall Terry.
