Historic hangover series marks transition

There could only be one handover, but Hong Kong's party animals had plenty of ways to develop a transitional hangover.

One of the most extravagant functions to straddle the divide was 'One Country, Two Parties', at the Regent Hotel, with 2,800 guests at the June 30 and July 1 bashes.

Over at Harbour City, the Hongkong Hotel, the Marco Polo and the Prince, more than 300 revellers ignored the rain to kick up their heels on the alfresco concourse with the city skyline as a backdrop.

Batman and Robin made a fleeting visit to Hong Kong recently to meet more than 800 fans who turned out to see them at the Grand Hyatt's ballroom.

The charity premiere featured stars George Clooney, Chris O'Donnell and Alicia Silverstone.
