I refer to the letter headlined, 'Bus so cold' (South China Morning Post, June 21), expressing concern about the possible spread of germs in air-conditioned buses.

With proper maintenance of air-conditioning systems and frequent cleaning of the air filters, the risk of germ proliferation inside an air-conditioned bus should be the same as any air-conditioned building.
The Kowloon Motor Bus Co has advised that it is implementing a thorough air-conditioning system cleaning programme with the air filters cleaned weekly.
Hence, it is unlikely that its air-conditioned buses would pose any significant health risk to passengers.
