A new body formed to advise on aspects of the Basic Law is unlikely to have any influence on business matters, Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) chairman Anthony Neoh says.
Mr Neoh is one of 12 members of the Basic Law Committee appointed by the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress to provide advice on four key articles of the Basic Law.
The committee formally began operations on July 1.
Mr Neoh yesterday said his appointment to the committee was in a 'personal capacity' related to his previous legal career, rather than it being associated in any way with his role at the SFC.
The role of the committee appeared to be restricted to matters outside business.
'The Basic Law Committee deals essentially with matters concerning defence, foreign affairs and the relationship between the SAR and [China's] central government,' he said.
