Hong Kong businessman Dominick Nisbett lay back in his upper-class seat on the Virgin flight from Hong Kong to Britain and tried to put his finger on what made Richard Branson's airline (and sister companies) differ from their rivals.
Then the captain's voice boomed out of the speakers.
'Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, this is your captain speaking. We are about to start our descent into London's Heathrow airport. The outside temperature is 20 degrees celsius, with rain forecast for later in the afternoon. I hope you have enjoyed the flight and have a pleasant stay in the UK.' The pilot paused. And then continued: 'And finally, I would like to congratulate two of our passengers for joining the mile-high club last night. The video will be available in all Virgin Megastores from next month.' Dominick and a few other travellers looked around, and it wasn't difficult to spot the red-faced couple on the opposite side of the aircraft.
Yes, the staff on Virgin keep a close eye on all their passengers, and are not above doing a bit of teasing to keep everyone entertained.
Dominick was reminded of an American friend who managed to persuade his girlfriend that conjugal activities performed standing up in a cramped aircraft toilet was fun.
After an uncomfortable experience, he poked his head out of the loo door to see if the coast was clear.
