An indoor stadium and 250 flats will be built when Mongkok's Macpherson Stadium complex is redeveloped.
The Land Development Corporation will redevelop the site in Yim Po Fong Street jointly with the Hong Kong Playground Association.
A Lands Department spokesman said yesterday that, under the joint-venture project, the 2,400-square-metre site would be developed to provide an indoor stadium with 1,800 seats, function rooms and a youth centre within a five-storey podium. 'The adjoining Urban Council Macpherson Playground will be realigned,' he said.
'A residential block providing 250 flats will be built on top of the podium. On the ground floor will be shops.
'The owners affected by other corporation urban renewal projects will have priority to buy these flats at market value.' Under the proposal, the corporation will pay for all development and for the re-equipping of the playground. Work will start later this year and be completed in three to four years.
Owners of properties affected by the corporation's comprehensive urban renewal projects in Kennedy Town New Praya and Tsuen Wan town centre who have not yet received acquisition offers, sent out last Wednesday are being asked to telephone 2588 2333.
