Rules preventing women working seven days are dropped from today.

The restrictions prevented women and young people working in dangerous jobs, provided compulsory rest days and limited overtime. But the Sex Discrimination Ordinance which took effect in July 1995, outlawed the rules. A grace period for firms to comply expired yesterday.

The regulations continue to protect 15 to 17-year-olds.
