Malaysia has marked the handover by making it bothersome for BNO passport holders to visit that country. It plans to end visa-free access for BNO passport holders. The visa requirement officially was brought in on July 1, but there will be a three-month grace period. From October 1, BNO passport holders arriving in Malaysia will be refused entry if they do not have a visa.

It will take one working day to obtain visas, and the fee will be $63.

Meanwhile, China Travel Service is offering special trips to Shenzhen under a '100 Days of Wonder' package celebrating the handover, until October 8. There are afternoon visits to the China Folk Culture Village or the Window on the World. There is also a two days/one night package to three theme parks in Shenzhen. Upmarket, the Savoy Group is offering special rates at hotels in England. The hotels include the Savoy and Claridge's in London. The offer is open until August 31 and there are savings of more than 25 per cent on room rates.
