Teachers are to be trained to detect gifted children, the Chinese University revealed yesterday.
A series of studies will also be conducted to examine the characters and learning strategies of the talented. It is hoped the findings will help children who are academically weak or have learning problems.
Professor Leslie Lo Nai-kwai, the university's Dean of Education, said yesterday his faculty would channel more resources into developing education for the gifted.
He said many children with talent were 'buried' because their teachers could not recognise it.
Professor Lo said: 'Talented students may have already understood the topics and show no interest in lessons.
'But teachers just blame the students for not being attentive in class. Few ask if the students are gifted.
