An overstaying mother begged immigration officers to send her home after finding out her one-way permit had finally been issued by mainland authorities. Mok Chek-mui, 36, was anxious to leave after her family in Chiuchow told her the permit she had waited seven years for was ready, Western Court heard. Her family told her the deadline for picking it up was tomorrow. An attempt to cross to the mainland at Lowu last Monday failed since she was being investigated by the Immigration Department for breaching her conditions of stay. So the mother-of-three turned herself in the following day and begged for immediate repatriation. Western magistrate Timothy Jenkins yesterday fined her $3,000 after she admitted overstaying since June 10. Outside court, Mok said she would leave for the mainland immediately.
