Illegal immigrants survey
1-MIN READ1-MIN
Eight out of every 10 people in a survey supported the government proposal to deport illegal immigrant children, even if they had the right of abode in the SAR.
About 83 per cent of the 559 respondents supported the controversial amendment recently made to the Immigration Ordinance which requires these children to have a certificate of entitlement before settling in Hong Kong.
Only 11 per cent objected to the amendment while the remainder had no opinion.

Kowloon Federation of Associations, which conducted the survey, also supported the amended laws, saying this could avoid over-burdening social welfare services.
Nearly 60 per cent agreed the revised laws, endorsed on July 9, should date from July 1.
